YouthBuild Philly was founded in 1992 to give high school dropouts a second chance and the opportunity to build a brighter future for themselves and their community. Our innovative program offers young at-risk adults a high school diploma, valuable job skills, and the opportunity to learn and grow in a community-oriented, supportive environment. We prepare our students for further educational attainment and meaningful careers as they become leaders and contributing members in a stronger Philadelphia.
A transformative 2nd chance academic and workforce Americorps program lasting 9-18 months with 1-year follow-up.
Program provides High school diploma, Job training and certification, and
College counseling. Services offered in English and Spanish, between the hours of 9:30am to 3:30pm (changes slightly year to year).
Sectoral training includes Healthcare, Business Administration and Customer Service, Building Trades, Childcare
Credential(s) acquired: High school diploma,
Option of following credentials (dependent on training track) : HHA, CAN, OSHA, NCCER, CSET, SERVESafe, CDA
Incentives: 24 months of transportation assistance and opportunity to earn an AmeriCorps award (at least $1,200) for continued education.
Individuals with a criminal background are welcome
CRITERIA
- 18-21-year-old
- Resident of Philadelphia
- Formally dropped out of public school or not on track to earn high school diploma
- Committed to their educational career rebirth.
